About Placerville & El Dorado County

A Guide to Placerville and El Dorado County, California

We’re extremely grateful to be located in historic Placerville, California, part of the beautiful El Dorado County that ecompasses the foothills all the way to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountains. Placerville is one of the oldest towns in California, being established for the gold rush. That’s why each year we have celebrations and events focused on local gold rush history. Even local elementary and middle schools teach curriculum about the gold rush because gold was discovered only 20 minutes from our Thompsons Toyota dealership, the gold that started it all in Coloma, California. Go to Coloma today, and you can rent pans and try to find some gold flakes yourself.

Oh yeah, we also have great golfing at like Apple Mountain Golf Club, or Cold Springs Country Club, amazing wine and beer to be found in Apple Hill. Have you ever had an apple doughnut or apple beer from Apple Hill? Something about their name says they know a thing or two about apples.

Now, head an hour east, and you’ll find yourself on the shores of breathtaking Lake Tahoe, one of the wonders of the world. It’s absolutely stunning with the gorgeous blue water and mountains surrounding it. Lake Tahoe is actually one of the deepest lakes in the world! Of course, in the moutains you’ll find endless hikes to go on, trails to crush in your 4Runner or Jeep, and the best skiing in California. El Dorado County really does have it all.
